Results
More than 12,000 elementary and high school students participated in the Manitoba municipal elections.
Even though they are under the voting age, 12,206 students from throughout Manitoba had the opportunity to vote for candidates running for municipal council and school trustee.
By 6:00 pm CT on October 26, 129 schools had submitted their Student Vote results, from 33 municipalities throughout Manitoba.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Winnipeg: In total, 9,404 students cast ballots from 78 schools in Winnipeg. Glen Murray was elected mayor with 16% of the vote, defeating Robert Falcon-Ouellette (15%), Kevin Klein (13%), Scott Gillingham (12%) and Rana Bokhari (10%), among other challengers. The following candidates were also elected to council:
- Charleswood – Tuxedo – Westwood: Hal Anderson
- Daniel McIntyre: Cindy Gilroy
- Elmwood – East Kildonan: Jason Schreyer
- Fort Rouge – East Fort Garry: Sherri Rollins
- Mynarski: Ross Eadie
- North Kildonan: Jeff Browaty
- Point Douglas: Vivian Santos
- River Heights – Fort Garry: John Orlikow
- St. Boniface: Matt Allard
- St. James: Shawn Dobson/Kelly Ryback (tie)
- St. Vital: Brian Mayes
- Transcona: Shawn Nason
- Waverley West: Janice Lukes
- Brandon: Jeff Fawcett was elected mayor with 73% of the vote.
- Winkler: Henry Siemens was elected mayor with 65% of the vote.
- Portage la Prairie: Bryon Hamilton was elected reeve with 45% of the vote.
- Thompson: Colleen Smook was elected mayor with 53% of the vote.
- Flin Flon: Tim Babcock was elected mayor with 55% of the vote.
- The Pas: Jennifer Cook was elected mayor with 53% of the vote.
