Virtual Job Fair – February

Is your business hiring and looking for a way to promote your job opportunities? Are you searching for a new career in a growing region? The Work in Simcoe County job fair is a great opportunity for job seekers to meet area companies! The online event will be hosted on an innovative, user-friendly platform  where job seekers and employers can connect through one-on-one text chat, audio and video

• Job Seekers: anyone looking to get back into the workforce or anyone looking for a new career
• Employers: with open positions are invited to share their job opportunities

Job Seekers – Why Attend?  

• Pursue your job search from the comfort of your own home 
• Speak directly with local companies that are hiring via 1:1 text, audio or video chats  
• Attend live webinar sessions during the event on topics such as career pathways

Job Seekers – Why Register Early?

• View the companies and job opportunities in advance of the event  
• Access 1:1 support from Employment Ontario including free assistance with resume writing, developing a job search plan and preparing for the event. Contact an Employment Ontario office near you.

Employers – Why Attend?  

• Customizable booth and set-up support (If you participated in the last event, we can replicate your booth for you!) 
• Unlimited 1:1 text, audio or video chats with job seekers   
• Access to job seeker profiles and resumes 1-week pre-event 
• Opportunity to pre book interviews leading up to the day of the event 
• Increased visibility – participating employers and opportunities will be profiled in event advertising

The Virtual Job Fair is limited to those employers offering employment within the 16 member municipalities of the County of Simcoe and the Cities of Barrie and Orillia, Base Borden, Chippewas of Rama First Nations and Beausoleil First Nation. Recruiting agencies that are not hiring directly are not eligible to participate in the job fair. 

During the virtual job fair event, there will be a short live webinar with a panel of area employers providing advice to job seekers. If you are a local employer interested in participating on the panel, please contact edo@simcoe.ca

Employment Ontario Resources

Employers can connect with a local Employment Ontario service provider for help with staff training, hiring incentives and recruiting top talent. Job seekers and those looking to access skills training are also encouraged to contact your local service provider. Contact an Employment Ontario office near you. On the day of the event, Employment Ontario offices (virtually and/or in-person) will be available to support job seekers. How can job seekers prepare for a Virtual Job Fair? 

• Create a strong virtual profile. Ensure your resume is up to date
• Research the company or companies you’re interested in working for before the virtual job fair event
• Have an introduction and your resume ready! Be prepared to answer questions and ask about the company. You may be interviewed on the spot, so think about and even write down some answers to interview questions you could be asked. 
• Test out the platform, as well as your audio, visual and internet connection prior to the day of, to ensure everything is working well.  
• Plan where you will be sitting in advance. Find a quiet spot with a neutral background and good lighting. 
• Dress like you would for an in-person job fair or job interview to make a good impression on your potential future employer.  
• Arrive on time for all scheduled meetings or interviews. 
• Maintain eye contact and practice active listening. Try to smile and nod naturally as you would during an in-person conversation. 
• Ask questions and follow up. Send a thank you email to those you spoke with at the virtual job fair. This will make you stand out and show the employer that you are interested in working for their company.
